One Step Closer

It's official my first semester of OT is over.  I took my last final this morning and turned in my last assignment this afternoon.  It was definitely a roller coaster ride, but I have made some amazing friends. This past week I found out next semester, every Monday I will be at Aspire Pediatric Therapy of Georgia in Flowery Branch, GA. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to learn in an area of OT that I haven't experienced before.

This evening a few of us got together and had dinner at a fellow classmate's house. It was nice to relax and be done with school for the moment.  I got my first monogram and can officially be a southern gal.

Tomorrow I'm driving up to Virginia to stay with Liz and Nate for the week, yay!

This past school week went fine as usual.  I had a large exam on Thursday that I spend most of my week stressing out for.  Yet, I only have one more full week of classes. I have a lot left to do.  I still have two more anatomy lecture exam, two more anatomy lab quizzes, a neuro lab practical, two more papers, two presentations, and a neuro quiz. Then once that's all done I'll have finals week to worry about.

Part of professional reasoning class this semester was to get to know a person in the community who has a disability.  I have had a wonderful time these past twelve weeks with my community partner.  He is an younger male in his early thirties who suffered a traumatic brain injury at the age of 17.  On Monday I will present my community partner experience with my class, and I'm looking forward to telling everyone about him and what we've done all semster.  The presentation is supposed to be creative so I will be simulating a mock interview and I will be acting as my community partner while the rest of the class will be employees for a company he wishes to work at. I have created a resume based on everything I've learned from him and each "employer" will have one to look at.

This week I made banana bread and homemade meatballs. I've enjoyed both. The meatballs are good  leftovers on top of leftover pasta. Plus I got to use my brand new blue Bella crock pot. I loved it and seemed to do a great job.

Last weekend I drove to Chattanooga to watch Purdue row at Head of the Hooch.  The city is very beautiful, I was very impressed.  I went with a classmate and we stopped at a local brewery, Big River Brewery, and got drinks and dessert before we left.

The week was pretty packed with class and studying as usual.  On Sunday I made oatmeal bread for the week.  It turned out well and made for a good breakfast option every morning.

I didn't do much this weekend. I went to the Mall of Georgia with a classmate.  It's in Buford, twenty miles south of Gainesville. I had some asian food in the food court and shopped at Old Navy and H&M. I also went to a running store and bought a flipbelt. Its an elastic belt that sits on your hips and can hold your phone, keys, and ID.  I'm looking forward to testing it out this week when I go for a run.

Not much is coming up besides exams. Just two more weeks till thanksgiving break!

Halloween Week

Last weekend I made all my halloween cards.  I thought it was going to be a quick, study break to do on a Saturday evening, but it took much longer than I wanted.  Hopefully ya'll received them on Halloween or will soon.

My week was pretty chaotic. I had an anatomy lecture exam and lab exam on Monday.  Thursday I had a large neuroscience exam that took over Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights studying for.  Wednesday I spent 8 hours studying in Panera Bread for the exam.  I got to see both the lunch and dinner rush. Today I have one more exam to take that I will most likely take this evening.

Tomorrow I'm driving up to Chattanooga to watch Purdue row in the Head of the Hooch regatta.

Catch Up

I am going to try to post every week.  It will most likely occur on a Friday or Saturday.  So I have made it through 9 weeks of class. They have definitely been eventful and challenging, but I'm doing good.  I am taking six classes

-Gross Anatomy
-Neuroscience
-Evidence Based Practice
-Professional Reasoning
-Foundations of OT
-Clinical Conditions

They are going well and for the most part I enjoy all the classes. I have a busy week coming up with four exams. This weekend we had a class Halloween party. I was a scarecrow and my roommates were a party animal and a pirate. We had a large bonfire and played jenga.

Tomorrow I am going onto campus to see the dissection of the brain from our cadaver.
Until next week, meredith

The Basics

So here it is, I'm a recent graduate of Purdue University.  I have come to love the state of Indiana and wish I would never have to leave.  However, pursing my career is taking me south, very far south.  I will be attending Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia to obtain a masters in occupational therapy.

I am extremely excited to work towards my degree, but I'm nervous about the new changes I'm going to encounter. I hope to keep y'all (I'm trying to blend in) up to date with everything that happens, whether it be school, health, lifestyle, or the weather (because I've heard all it does is rain in Atlanta).
